Cátia Pereira

I am an aquatic biologist with great interest in investigating the dynamics of aquatic food webs under climate change. I am a PhD student at the Center for Macroecology, Evolution and Climate (CMEC) at the University of Copenhagen, Denmark; and at the Research Center in Biodiversity and Genetic Resources (CIBIO) at the University of Évora, Portugal.

I am currently part of the team, led by Dr Miguel B. Araújo that is running a large-scale experiment with aquatic mesocosms system across 6 locations of the Iberian Peninsula. My experience with workingfreshwater ecosystems have given me great motivation to develop a PhD project on the dynamicof aquatic food webs under climate change across environmental and biogeographical gradients.

I have a degree in Marine Biology (2008) and a MSc in Insular Biodiversity and Ecology (2013). Since 2009 I have been working in Freshwater Ecosystems within the areas of Phycology and Limnology, characterizing phytoplankton and phytobenthos communities of Azorean lakes and streams, determining the indicative value of microalgae for ecological quality assessment of these ecosystems. I also worked in paleolimnological projects, in order to develop transfer functions for water quality variables that allow the characterization of the historical evolution of lakes ecosystems and their conditions in the absence of human impact.
