Dr. Amália Oliveira

I am an entomologist with significant experience in the study of ground beetles (Coleoptera: Carabidae). My works started at Moscow State University (MGU), where I studied the Carabids of the MGU’s Botanic Garden. Later, my MSc Thesis focused on identifying the Carabids of cork-oak woodlands in the Alentejo region of southern Portugal and their relationships with land-use factors. I have participated in several other projects in this region, such as Islands I — the study of the fauna of the future islands of the Alqueva reservoir and the land-use variables that explain their variation in biodiversity; Islands II — the impact of the reservoir on the fauna of the formed islands (on both these projects I worked on Carabids); Fauna of the Mountains of Monfurado (Site of the Nature 2000 Network), where I identified the species of Carabids and their relationships with land-use variables.

My present work as a PhD student focuses on the Carabid community of the Monchique mountain chain (SW Portugal), identifying endemic species, analysing their distribution and biology, and understanding their relationships with land-use variables.
