Sílvia Barreiro

I’m an Environmental Scientist (University of Évora) who worked 10 years in environmental impact assessment and bat monitoring programmes of wind farms, railways and power lines.

In 2016 I completed my master’s degree in Conservation Biology (University of Évora) with the thesis “Saving tress for saving bats: Tree-like features as key foraging habits for insectivorous bats in intensively farmed agricultural lands”.

Currently I’m a researcher at the group coordinated by Prof. António Mira (CIBIO - University of Évora) and I’m responsible for bat census, roost monitoring and acoustic identification within the framework of the project “Estudo e Valorização da Biodiversidade – Componente da Fauna nas Propriedades SECIL – Outão. 4ª Fase” aiming the ecological rehabilitation of quarries; and wildlife road mortality monitoring within the framework of “LIFE LINES – Linear Infrastructure Networks with Ecological Solutions (LIFE14 NAT/PT/001081)” project.

My main research interests are the effect of human activities on bat population, communities and ecosystem services.
